Today there is a high social demand for nature on the part of city-dwellers and it has become a major element in the attractiveness of urban environments for the public authorities. Nature in the city fulfils a number of different functions: ecological, but also economic, and cultural as well as playing a role in people's well-being; nature is an object and an ideal means of articulating ideas and mobilising politicians, local people and urban development professionals around the notion of a Utopian Naturapolis.
The emphasis put on the environment has generated a large number of innovative and experimental projects, in which the materials aspects of the landscape and its sensitive and aesthetic dimensions are intermingled. Sustainable development, the materials revolution (recycling as a circular process), the need for nature in the city, are so many ways of attempting to reshape a new mimesis.
Giving apprentice architects and landscapers the chance to work together on this theme to give shape and meaning to the city of tomorrow: that is the aim of this international competition of ideas, which is open to multi-disciplinary teams of students.
